Aaron Michel, PhDAaron Michel specializes in the development of multi-peril catastrophe models and risk transfer products, with a focus on the developing world. Previously, Aaron worked as a Senior Engineer at AIR Worldwide where he developed supply chain risk models and risk financing initiatives for private and sovereign clients. Aaron is trained as a structural engineer and previously researched structural analysis, structural design, material science, numerical modeling, and network modeling. Aaron holds a PhD and MS in Structural Engineering, a BS in Civil Engineering, and is a licensed Professional Engineer and post-earthquake structural inspector in the state of California.

Alex Marti, PhDAlex Marti is a co-founder and CEO of MITIGA Solutions, a spin-off of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center that provides technological solutions to forecast and mitigate the impact of atmospheric hazards across multiple industries. Alex served as a project manager for the U.S. Government bridging cutting-edge R&D into industry, and collaborated in organizations such as NASA, Microsoft or the UK MetOffice. Alex holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, doctorate studies in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Exeter and Cambridge Universities, and a MSc. in Geospatial Technologies and MSc. in Environmental Engineering.
Andrea PiattiAndrea Piatti is currently Head of European Mergers & Acquisitions of a leading Insurance Run-off specialist fund, where he is responsible for business development in Europe. Prior to that, Andrea was Head of Structured Solutions (EMEA) and Global Product Leader at MS Amlin in Zurich, where he developed and led MS Amlin global structured reinsurance proposition. Mr Piatti has been instrumental in the set-up and development of MS Amlin’s Zurich operations. Andrea held various Senior Reinsurance and ILS roles at Partner Re and Swiss Re Capital Markets. Andrea holds an MSc in Mathematics and is a certified Financial Risk Manager.

Angus has gained deep experience of advising both public and private sector entities on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, structures and transactions. Angus was external counsel for Global Parametrics for more than four years, including developmental phase, before formally joining in early 2018.

Annyes LaheurteAnnyes Lheurte has over 20 years of experience in financial reporting for international organizations within the financial services industry. Whilst working at Lloyd’s of London, her focus was on governance and financial controls as well as mitigating operational risk through control monitoring and enhancement. She successfully delivered business control initiatives globally in accordance with relevant policies and frameworks including information security, business continuity plan and data privacy. Her varied experience allows her to have a holistic view of the risk and control environment across various companies. Annyes is a Chartered Global Management Accountant and member of the Institute of Risk Management and was awarded Specialist status.

He plays a leading role within the company's product design and structuring activities for clients. Dan brings over 10 years of experience working in financial services in low and middle-income countries to catalyse economic growth through foreign investment and the development of local financial market infrastructure. Dan has extensive experience with start-ups through his own ventures in Haiti, Mongolia and Burkina Faso as well as his previous role at the University of Virginia's entrepreneurship center. Jason Hartell, PhDDr. Jason Hartell is a risk model/product structuring specialist for Global Parametrics and a development economist with over 15 years of experience. He has participated in a wide array of projects involving natural disaster risk in Asia and Africa. His primary responsibility involves modeling conditions that create shocks in food production and collaborating with stake-holders to create financial disaster risk management solutions to manage disruptions to livelihoods, the value-chain, and financial institutions lending into agriculture. Jason holds a MS in agricultural economics from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

Juan MarcanoJuan Marcano is a senior professional with over 10 years of experience in the financial services sector. His focus is on building partnerships and driving business development based on his detailed knowledge of the weather risk market. Previously, Juan worked with Swiss Re's Weather & Energy team, where he was responsible for advising on structured weather, energy and commodity solutions. Before joining Swiss Re, he worked on renewable energy financing for ING in Europe, and project finance advisory in the US energy sector, following several years experience as a field engineer for Schlumberger. Juan holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and an MBA from The George Washington University.
Malcolm Haylock, PhDLead Risk Modelling/Structuring
Malcolm Haylock, PhDMalcolm Haylock has a background in weather-related perils, with a PhD in statistical climatology. He worked for 15 years as a researcher for two government research centres in Australia, focusing on historical and expected future changes in Australian climate as well as seasonal forecasting of temperature and precipitation. In 2007 he took up a position with PartnerRe as a catatrophe model developer, responsible for their in-house European windstorm model, then broadening into an overview of all wind-related perils. Later, at Aspen Re, he headed the research programme into natural catastrophe risk. During that time, much analysis was done into the application of vendor models across the company, including detailed studies into understanding the assumptions and methodology of such models and their customisation for commercial application.

He started his first business after Graduating High School, then for 23 years he ran his second business in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Savannah in 2017. Michael Shaw, PhDMicheal Shaw is Global Parametrics’ mathematician/statistician/data scientist/R-programmer. Michael has more than 25 years experience as an educator and researcher while working in the departments of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Kentucky.
Michael started working with Jerry Skees in June 2013 on combining technology with financial risk assessment for GlobalAgRisk. Michael has a Ph.D. in pure mathematics and a certificate in computational finance and risk management. He also did post-doctoral research in the department of Electrical Engineer at the University of Kentucky working on projects in signal and image processing and time-series analysis.

Michael WilliamsMichael Williams works in sales origination and as a GIS specialist for Global Parametrics (GP). He started working with the GP founding team in 2015 as a consultant with GlobalAgRisk and in early 2018 was hired as a GP employee to help start the Washington, DC office with GP Vice President, Dan Bierenbaum. Michael has a keen interest in exploring the spatial and non-spatial relationships between the many datasets that contribute to building GP products, as well as the real-world implications of this work. Michael is passionate for whitewater kayaking and an advocate for the protection of waterways.
Scott Putnam, PhDAdvisor Risk Modelling/Structuring
Scott Putnam, PhDScott Putnam has over 20 years of experience in the weather risk management space with a wide-range of experience including the development of portfolio risk management systems and trading platforms. Scott was instrumental in launching weather derivative contracts on the CME, and the Narex wind futures on the NasdaqOMX. Previous to Global Parametrics, he worked at EDF Energy where he was lead trader and built optimization models for carbon based and renewable energy assets, amongst others. Scott holds a Masters and PhD in Geophysics from the University of Utah and has been awarded the NASA Global Change Fellow & Congressional Science Fellow.

Sharon ArnoldSharon Arnold is the Financial and Office Administrator at Global Parametrics R&D and serves as the Human Resources coordinator. She has over 15 years of experience keeping books using QuickBooks software, working at GlobalAgRisk prior to her position at Global Parametrics. Early in her career, she was a librarian at the University of Kentucky, followed by machine knitting for a small company that sold custom sweaters.

Thomas JohnsonThomas Johnson received his bachelor's degree from NC State University's Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in Environmental Economic Policy. After working at Google, he spent time making wine in California and Chile, teaching data analysis and working on a variety of problems involving data, R and Shiny, before making his way to Global Parametrics. His interests lie in rapid development of data analysis tools, open source software, environmental issues, Portuguese, Spanish, food and wine.

Susan ForesterGlobal Parametrics’ COO is Susan Forester, who has worked for more than 20 years in the finance sector with leading firms such as Salomon Smith Barney, the NASDAQ, and Lehman Brothers. Most recently having been employed by CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution (DFI), in a strategic planning and operational management role, Susan joined Global Parametrics in October 2016. Very early in the life of the company, she took a lead role in building out the corporate functions, including finance, people management, corporate governance and stakeholder engagement. Following the establishment of the Natural Disaster Fund in January 2018, Susan has worked to familiarise the DFI, climate finance and impact investment community with natural disaster protection products. Susan has a Master’s of International Political Economy from the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs in Ottawa and an MSc in Finance and Finance Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.

Toby BehrmannToby is a financial services expert, specialising in bringing together partnerships to drive new business through innovation. With over 15 years commercial and developmental experience deploying financial products in emerging economies, he brings his strong relationships and deep understanding of the market to Global Parametrics. Toby started his career at AIG before leaving to build out a boutique agency that was focused on Asia, Africa and South America. Most recently he was a founding member of a micro-insurance start-up that used mobile technology to bring insurance and other services to the unbanked in Myanmar, Nepal and the Philippines. Toby’s core belief is that markets are built by improving access through innovative products and technology.
Nina ShapiroOver the course of an illustrious career with the World Bank, Nina held several senior management and operating roles. From 2000- 2011, Nina was a member of the Management Group and was Vice President Finance and Treasurer of the International Finance Corporation. She sat for 7 years on the Board of MAN Group as well as Zurich Insurance Group’s Investment Management Advisory Council and the Carbon Trust’s Advisory Panel.

Lisa SherkLisa Sherk is a Board Member of Global Parametrics. She is the Head of Investment Analytics at BlueOrchard Finance and a founding shareholder in Global Parametrics.
Lisa has nearly 30 years of experience in the emerging markets financial sector, including the past 15 years in the impact investment field. She has specific expertise in the assessment of the financial and social performance of microfinance institutions globally and has built up strong relationships with microfinance practitioners and networks, local microfinance investment funds and other stakeholders in the impact investment sector. Lisa provided consultancy services for the ProMujer network in Latin America, the Social Performance Task Force, among others. Prior to working in impact investment, she held positions in emerging markets fixed income asset management firms in the New York City area, including at Swiss Bank Corporation, Wasserstein Perella Emerging Markets and the Atlantic Advisors.
Lisa has a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University in New York and a BA in Economics and History from McGill University in Montreal.
Prof. Jerry SkeesChief Strategy Officer/Co-founder
Prof. Jerry SkeesJerry is the visionary behind Global Parametrics. Since 2010 at the request of the German government via KfW, Jerry worked with many stakeholders, colleagues, and friends to build the business case for GP. The cornerstone of the business case, dating from 1982, is Jerry’s work with multiple stakeholders on weather and seismic risk. Jerry led development of the first index insurance product for the U.S. crop insurance program in 1991, leading to Jerry’s work on weather index insurance with the World Bank in the mid-1990s. With a career of 35 years as a professor at the University of Kentucky, Jerry and his previous firm, GlobalAgRisk, have been on the forefront of many important innovations in low and middle-income countries. Jerry was instrumental in developing the globally acclaimed Index-Based Livestock Insurance Program in Mongolia and in providing core research in Ethiopia that led to the African Risk Capacity facility. He was key in developing the world’s first regulated insurance product in Peru paying before a disaster, coined forecast insurance and laying the foundation for ongoing global efforts on forecast-based-financing.
